Course Description

Virtual Course - This class is delivered online.

Inductive Automation is conducting a 5-day training course covering the core features of Ignition. Whether you are a new user to Ignition or an existing user looking to discover the full breadth of Ignition's capabilities, this is the course for you! You will get an in-depth look at the architecture of Ignition, involving the interactions between PLCs and SQL databases. You will learn how successful projects are planned and executed from start to finish. Both Vision and Perspective will be used in class for HMI design.

This course gives you the opportunity to earn a Core certification during class. Labwork prompts will be assigned at the end of each day and reviewed the following morning. Students must attend and complete labwork on all 5 days to earn certification.

Class is held Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Pacific time with time for labwork and Q&A at the beginning and end of class each day. On Friday class ends at 3:00 PM.

The curriculum includes lecture, demonstration, and the creation of a live project that gives each student hands-on experience with all major features of Ignition. The format of the course encourages students to ask questions relevant to specific projects they have planned. Here are a few of the topics that will be covered:

  • Ignition Tags (OPC, Memory, Expression, Complex UDT)
  • Historian Data (Tags and Transaction Groups)

  • Visualization Templates and Indirection
  • Alerting and Notification
  • Security & Authentication
  • Scripting
  • Reporting

Virtual Requirements

This class is delivered online using a cloud hosted Virtual Machine for each student. Connection details will be emailed to students the week before class starts. AWS Workspaces and GoToWebinar meetings will be set up 1 week before class starts and connection details will be created using the enrolled student’s name and email address. It is recommended to test your AWS connection before class starts.

Recommended equipment: A strong internet connection and a computer with 2 monitors - You will be working in Ignition and viewing the instructor's screen. Connecting from a home network generally works without issues, connections from a company network or VPN may fail due to port requirements.
