Raising The Standard: Inductive Automation Earns ISO 9001 Certification

At Inductive Automation, our mission has always been clear: empower problem-solvers to turn big ideas into reality by removing technological and economic obstacles. In IA’s quest to enable unbridled creativity, flexibility, and scalability for a global community of innovators in over 140 countries, we have committed to achieving four certifications: IEC 62443-4-1 (Secure Software Development Lifecycle), ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 27001 (Information Security), and ISO 14001 (Environmental, Health, and Safety).
IA achieved IEC 62443-4-1 certification through Exida for IA’s secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) in 2023 at Maturity Level 2 and recertified in 2024 at Maturity Level 3.
Now, we are proud to announce a major milestone in our ongoing journey of quality and customer trust: IA is officially ISO 9001 certified.

What Is ISO 9001?
ISO 9001 is the world’s most widely recognized quality management standard. This certification was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to affirm that a company meets strict requirements for its quality management system (QMS) across the entire organization.
At its core, ISO 9001 is about consistency, transparency, and continual improvement. For customers, it means the company they’re working with is committed to delivering high-quality products and services. For us at IA, it’s a formalization of the values we’ve always lived by.

Why Inductive Automation Chose ISO 9001
IA pursued ISO 9001 certification because of its increasing importance to our customers, especially those in regulated industries like aerospace, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, automotive, and more. ISO 9001 certification demonstrates a high level of process maturity and consistency in product quality. Enterprise teams increasingly need assurance that their technology partners can meet rigorous quality, security, and compliance standards as they start to use Ignition for more sensitive applications.
Ultimately, ISO 9001 certification gives customers more certainty when evaluating IA and Ignition.

The Journey To ISO 9001 Certification
Earning ISO 9001 certification was an organization-wide effort that touched every team at IA, from software development and technical support to HR, sales, and marketing.
The globally recognized registrar TÜV SÜD issued the ISO 9001 certification to IA using ISO 90003 software engineering guidelines tailored to technology companies. To meet the standard, IA designed and implemented a QMS built around risk-based planning, extensive documentation, and standardized metrics for measuring outcomes.
This included:
- Standardizing internal documentation across departments.
- Establishing a central system for document control and process ownership.
- Training leaders and teams on new quality processes and expectations.
- Maintaining a system for identifying, resolving, and preventing issues.
- Aligning all company processes with ISO’s quality principles.
While IA’s existing systems already supported a high level of performance, this process helped us streamline and unify practices across the board. We kept our familiar tools and platforms and added lightweight controls and tracking systems to help everyone work smarter and more consistently.

What This Means For Ignition Users
IA’s ISO 9001 certification brings tangible benefits to the entire Ignition community, including:
- Increased trust: ISO 9001 certification gives customers an additional layer of assurance that our systems are consistent, well-documented, and continually improving.
- Faster evaluations: Many large enterprises require ISO 9001 certification to qualify vendors. This certification can accelerate the vetting process and eliminate friction.
- Improved support and service: IA can consistently improve service and support customers more effectively and predictably with clearer processes and aligned expectations.
- Greater scalability: A standardized internal structure allows IA to grow without sacrificing quality or accountability.
Overall, ISO 9001 certification makes us a better and more consistent leader for our teams and partner to our customers.

What’s Next For Inductive Automation?
Now that IA is ISO 9001 certified, we will be conducting regular internal and third-party audits and using data and feedback to refine our processes and improve customer experience. This certification isn’t the finish line for improvement — it’s a foundation for it.
IA is committed to achieving external ISO 27001 and ISO 14001 certifications by September 2026 for information and environmental security, so stay tuned for more announcements about our certification journey. These ongoing certification efforts reflect our broader goal to serve our customers at the highest level, not only by building powerful software, but also by holding our company to the most trusted international standards for quality, security, and responsibility.
